Smaller ophthalmology ASCs might have 400 to 800 intraocular lenses onsite from several manufacturers, while large ASCs might carry as many as 4,000 IOLs, according to McKesson Medical-Surgical's Jayme White, technology sales director.
With so many IOLs in stock, ASCs should utilize automated inventory management systems to drive clinical, financial and operational value, she said in a blog post.
Here are Ms. White's tips for leveraging an automated IOL inventory management system.
1. Ensure staff members are educated about how to use the new automated IOL inventory management system.
2. Designate one individual to champion the new system and encourage others to take advantage of its features.
3. Actively and continuously manage IOL inventory through system-generated inventory reports.
