How supply chain data affects the shift to value-based care

Supply chain data can help inform decisions about value-based care and healthcare finances, according to a new survey released by data automation company Global Healthcare Exchange.

The survey was taken by the company's "best 50" healthcare provider organizations, a group of hospitals chosen from 4,100 t connected to the exchange's software that have shown they can cut supply chain costs and improve performance.
The survey asked t respondants' about their supply chain priorities for next year. They identified data and system integration as two initiatives that support the move to value-based care.

Standardized data helps organizations understand the cost of care and patient outcomes stemming from supply chain decisions, including value-based care cost analyses, patient billing and EHR adoption, according to the survey results.

Survey respondent Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System reported that standardized supply chain data provided insight on how supply variation affects healthcare quality and cost.

Stanford Health Care reported that combining its clinical and supply chain systems helped physicians and other clinical staff rcut supply chain costs and standardize supplies. Integrating systems and reducing costs help organizations achieve value-based care initiatives by increasing quality while keeping costs down, according to the survey.
