Digital Surgery launches 'satellite navigation' platform for ORs, surgery centers

Digital Surgery deployed the first surgical artificial intelligence system designed for the operating room.

Here's what you should know:

1. Digital Surgery's AI platform recognizes what is happening during surgery through a camera view and checks the anatomy and actions against Digital Surgery's library of proprietary surgical procedure road maps. The technology then predicts next steps in real-time.

2. The platform is designed to address the variables ORs and surgery centers face — including staff turnover, language, culture, tools, resources, training and surgical skill level — using satellite navigation.

3. Digital Surgery has developed AI algorithms for multiple procedures across surgical specialties, including bariatrics and orthopedics. The company plans to continue growing its library.

4. Digital Surgery is best known for its mobile surgical training app, Touch Surgery.

"This is a huge milestone for the future of surgery because it lays the foundation for how AI and computer vision will support surgical teams to deliver safer surgeries. It also enables the next generation of robotic surgery, giving these future systems the capability to function more intelligently and safely," said Digital Surgery CEO and Co-Founder Jean Nehme, MD.
