Cowen: Amazon could leverage Alexa to invade healthcare space

Cowen, a notable Wall Street bank, thinks Amazon will leverage Alexa voice assistance technology in the healthcare space, according to a Business Insider report.

"We think a natural fit for Amazon could be incorporating its Alexa voice assistance for some healthcare needs," Cowen researchers said in the note.

Here are four quick points:

1. Alexa could schedule and trigger telemedicine appointments; telehealth company Teladoc is compatible with Alexa.

2. Amazon recently began the search to add a HIPAA expert to its team, which would boost the company's expertise around patient information and data analytics.

3. Healthcare providers could also use Alexa to order new medical supplies, as Amazon already sells medical supplies to businesses.

4. Previously, Amazon had approval for wholesale pharmacy licenses in around 12 states, but several have expired, according to the report.
