Analysts debate Amazon’s healthcare intentions — 5 insights

1. The online sales giant recently registered the domain AmazonRX.com, but analysts are debating the company’s intent.

2. Jefferies analysts Brian Tanquilut believes Amazon could enter the medical device business, while Wells Fargo speculates the company will sell pharmaceuticals.

3. Mr. Tanquilut examined a license granted in Nevada. On it, Amazon didn’t disclose it would handle controlled substances. Although there are prescriptions that are uncontrolled, Mr. Tanquilut believes it represents a move towards medical devices.

4. Amazon posted a business-to-business medical device web page around the same time the company was awarded wholesale distribution licenses in several U.S. states.

5. Amazon told CNBC the company doesn’t, “comment on rumors or speculation.”
