1. Software flexibility. To attract top surgeons, ASCs can start allowing surgeons to schedule patients using their own software.

2. Interoperability goals. ASCs should determine who they want to be interoperable with — whether that’s a physician’s office, hospital, surgeon or supply vendor — before embarking on interoperability initiatives.

3. Long-term commitment. Creating software solutions takes time, and systems must be maintained to ensure interoperability won’t be affected.
