3 things for ASCs to consider when buying new equipment

Buying new equipment for an ASC is a big decision. The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses shared these purchasing tips:

1. Standardize buying approval process. Creating an objective process for approving physicians' requests for new equipment ensures fair decision-making. ASCs should consider the cost, ongoing expenses and clinical benefits of a potential purchase.

2. Test new equipment. Physicians who can test out equipment before requesting to buy it have a better idea of whether it will be a good fit for the center's needs.

3. Perform case costing. Comparing procedure times and costs with and without the new equipment can show ASC decision-makers the pros and cons of buying new equipment.
