Supply chain managers should evaluate operations by asking certain questions, according to Ryan Beaver, consulting director of advisory solutions for supply chain operations at healthcare performance improvement company Vizient.

1. Is there an annual savings goal? Setting goals for supply chain savings helps identify successes and areas to improve.

2. Is there a development plan for supply chain staff? Regularly training supply chain staff ensures an organization always has people with the necessary skills when gaps need to be filled.

3. Are physicians involved? Getting physicians involved with supply chain decisions is essential, given that physicians are the ones using the supplies.
