West Virginia OB/GYN Convicted of Healthcare Fraud

Danine Rydland, MD, a Martinsburg, W.Va., obstetrician/gynecologist, has been convicted of healthcare fraud by a federal jury and faces up to 340 years in prison, according to a WHSV news report.

Dr. Rydland was found guilty of defrauding Medicare, Medicaid, the Public Employees Insurance Agency and Unicare between June 2004 and Dec. 2008. The false claims were billed for services that were never provided or for more complex services. She was convicted on 34 counts, with each count carrying up to 10 years in prison.
