The co-owners of two California healthcare companies — Caravan Medical Supplies in Culver City and Prosperity Home Health Services in Lawndale — have been convicted on multiple healthcare fraud charges related to a Medicare fraud scheme, according to a news release from the Department of Justice.

Evans Oniha was found guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud, four counts of healthcare fraud and one count of false statements relating to healthcare matters. Camillus Ehigie pleaded guilty to multiple healthcare fraud charges.

Mr. Oniha and Mr. Ehigie paid marketers for access to Medicare beneficiary information, fraudulent information and other fraudulent documents. They used these materials to submit false claims to Medicare for durable medical equipment and home health services that were not medically necessary and often not provided. Court documents show the scheme resulted in the submission of approximately $5.8 million in fraudulent claims to Medicare.

Mr. Oniha is scheduled to be sentenced in September and Mr. Ehigie's sentencing is slated for January.
