The oncologist who ran Pacific Coast Hematology/Oncology Medical Group in Fountain Valley, Calif., has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for submitting bills for drugs that cancer patients never received, according to a Daily Pilot report.

Glen R. Justice, MD, pleaded guilty to five counts of healthcare fraud in May 2010. He was convicted of billing insurers, including Medicare, for injectable drugs that patients never received. He also overbilled for more expensive drugs than those that were actually administered. The scheme, which Dr. Justice ran since 2004, cost insurance providers up to $1 million, according to the report.
