North Carolina Fires Medicaid Director

North Carolina's Department of Health and Human Services fired Craigan Gray, MD, as Medicaid director as it looked to reorganize the division and "bring in someone with a different perspective and experience," according to a Charlotte Observer report.

North Carolina legislators have worked to close a $205 million shortfall in this year's Medicaid budget, and last week they learned the deficit is actually $75 million larger than expected.

Michael Watson, chief deputy secretary of North Carolina's DHHS, will take Dr. Gray's role, and Mr. Watson's salary will stay at $160,000.
