University of Alabama Receives $1.27M for Pain Management Research

The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa will receive a $1.27 million award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to study different psychosocial treatments for chronic pain management, according to a report by The Crimson White.

PCORI is a nonprofit organization funded by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The research project will include a study comparing two psychosocial treatments for chronic pain. It will compare cognitive-behavioral therapy to pain education groups in individuals with low income and possibly low literacy.
