Purdue Pharma Plans Pediatric OxyContin Trial

A clinical OxyContin trial is in progress for children between the ages of 6 and 17, according to a CNN report. The trial will include 154 children with moderate to severe pain who have demonstrated a tolerance to opioids.

The FDA may give drug manufacturer Purdue Pharma a six-month extension of its original OxyContin patent as an incentive for the completed pediatric study.
