American Academy of Pain Medicine: Opioid Medication Label Change Won't Solve Prescription Drug Abuse

In written comments to the FDA, the American Academy of Pain Medicine noted that changing the label on opioid pain medications to limit their continuous use to 90 days would do little to stop drug abuse while depriving millions of Americans the medication they need.

AAPM wrote that adopting the proposal to change the label could eliminate the use of opioids for chronic, non-cancer pain, usually defined as lasting beyond 90 days.
