5 Tips for Treating Chronic Pain Patients

In a KevinMD blog post, David Hanscom, MD, an orthopedic spine surgeon and author of "Back in Control: A Spine Surgeon's Roadmap out of Chronic Pain," lays out tips for treating patients suffering from chronic pain.

The five tips are:

1. Start by finding agreement.
2. Use the "open hands" approach.
3. Don't stop at labels.
4. Don't use an operation as a conflict resolution tool.
5. Enjoy your job.
