Dr. Jeffrey Carlson becomes Virginia's 1st surgeon trained to use M6-C

Jeffrey Carlson, MD, became Virginia's first surgeon trained to use the M6-C artificial cervical disc, which provides an alternative to spinal fusion.

Dr. Carlson is president and managing partner at Orthopaedic & Spine Center in Newport News, Va. A trained orthopedic surgeon, he has been with the center since 1999.

The M6-C disc, which is designed to mimic the anatomical structure of a natural disc, gained FDA clearance in February.

"I've been eager to use the M6-C disc since its release," Dr. Carlson said in a press release. "The technology provides patients with better outcomes, allowing them to get back to the life they love with minimal limitations. With its proven results, I knew I had to offer this to my patients."
