Surgeons perform 163 shoulder replacements with ExactechGPS in 1 year — 4 notes

Four Pewaukee-based Orthopaedic Associates of Wisconsin surgeons have performed 163 shoulder replacements using ExactechGPS since their facility implemented the navigation system in 2017, the Waukesha Freeman reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Orthopedic surgeons Rick Papandrea, MD, Scott Schneider, MD, Christopher Kilian, MD, and Samuel Steiner, MD, began using ExactechGPS in December 2017.

2. ProHealth Waukesha (Wis.) Memorial Hospital, ProHealth Oconomowoc (Wis.) Memorial Hospital and The Orthopaedic Surgery Center in Pewaukee, Wis., all use ExactechGPS.

3. The navigation system offers real-time visual guidance and alignment for shoulder replacement surgery. It also shows a 3-D map to help surgeons see hard-to-view areas of a patient's joint.

4. ExactechGPS can be used for standard, reverse and stemless shoulder replacements.
