Steadman Clinic physician wins award and $50k grant — 6 highlights

Peter Millett, MD, of Vail, Colo.-based Steadman Clinic received an Orthopedic Technology & Innovation Research Award and a $50,000 grant from Arthrex, according to Vail Daily. Here are six highlights:

1. As director of the Steadman Clinic's shoulder division, Dr. Millett is an orthopedic shoulder, elbow and knee specialist with a focus on joint preservation, shoulder stabilization and complex rotator cuff repairs.

2. Arthrex awarded Dr. Millett for his research in strengthening rotator cuff repairs and developing solutions for issues that physicians were previously unable to repair, such as massive rotator cuff tendon tears.

3. The award came with a $50,000 grant for orthopedic research. Evaluation criteria included interpretation of findings, conceptual framework and clinically significant contribution to the field.

4. Dr. Millett also researches throwing injuries in athletes. He has developed surgical techniques for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and the treatment of shoulder osteoarthritis, which he recently applied on an NFL player.

5. Dr. Millett's accomplishments include pioneering the comprehensive arthroscopic management procedure, an advanced osteoarthritis surgery that reduces pain and helps joint function.

6. A member of the scientific advisory board for the Steadman Philippon Research Institute, also in Vail, Dr. Millett has written four books on orthopedics, sports medicine and shoulder surgery, as well as more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific articles.
