Dr. Samuel Messieh, who practices at Winter Haven (Fla.) Hospital, plans to establish an outpatient knee replacement program by the end of this year, according to the Ledger.
Under current Medicare rules in Florida, any knee replacement with a hospital stay of two days or fewer is considered outpatient. Dr. Messieh performed 281 outpatient and inpatient knee replacements in 2018.
The average length of stay after knee replacement is fewer than three days at Florida hospitals.
