Hand injuries from carving pumpkins as well as leg and extremity injuries due to falls from tripping over long costumes or from costumes that restrict vision are two of the most common injuries associated with Halloween, said American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons spokesperson Kevin G. Shea, MD, who practices at Boise, Idaho-based Intermountain Orthopaedics.

2. Sanj Kakar, MD, a Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic orthopedic hand and wrist surgeon, said Halloween is the fourth busiest holiday for hand injuries.
