NYU Langone Ambulatory Care Bay Ridge opens: 5 things to know

Laura Dyrda -

New York City-based NYU Langone Health opened the first phase of its new multispecialty practice.

"This large multispecialty ambulatory center is part of NYU Langone's overall commitment to provide increased healthcare services in Brooklyn," said Andrew W. Brotman, MD, senior vice president and vice dean for clinical affairs and strategy, chief clinical officer at NYU Langone. "The total number of office visits to see NYU Langone physicians is more than 6 million. We need to provide more options directly in Brooklyn neighborhoods so patients have more convenient options for high level care."

Here are five things to know:

1. The new center will provide care for patients who have undergone orthopedic procedures including hand and wrist procedures, hip and knee reconstruction, spine surgery, sports medicine and trauma procedures. Pain management and X-ray imaging is also available.

2. Over the next six months, NYU Langone plans to open an on-site imaging center at the NYU Langone Ambulatory Care Bay Ridge location. The expansion of the location is expected to last through the summer of 2018.

3. When completed, the new 35,000-square-foot facility is expected to house cardiology, ENT, gastroenterology, internal medicine and podiatry services. More than 60 physicians and medical staff will be employed at the center when it's fully operational.

4. In addition to providing outpatient surgery and procedures, patients will be able to schedule pre-and postsurgical appointments at the new facility even if the surgeries were performed at other NYU Langone locations.

5. All NYU Langone sites are connected to the Epic EHR and patients can manage their appointments, communicate with physicians and refill prescriptions remotely through the patient portal.
