1. William Andersen, MD, of Cary (N.C.) Orthopaedics performed the procedure.

2. HSSC Nursing Director Elizabeth Stocum, RN, collaborated with Dr. Andersen and Cary Orthopaedics to develop clinical protocols for same-day outpatient total joint replacement surgery.

3. HSSC is a physician-owned and operated joint venture with Raleigh, N.C.-based WakeMed Health, Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health, Raleigh-based Compass Surgical Partners and local surgeons.

4. Vizient estimates knee and hip replacement procedure volumes will increase 457 percent and 633 percent, respectively, between 2016 and 2026.
