7 statistics to know on orthopedic surgeon employment

Medpage Today's 2018 orthopedic salary survey compared orthopedic surgeon pay across specializations, facility types and other factors.

Health Media designed and fielded the survey, collecting more than 20,000 responses — 7,753 of which contained salary information. Survey Design & Analysis analyzed the data.

Statistics on orthopedic surgeons' employment situations:

1. Working with patients part time: 6.2 percent
2. Working with patients full time: 90.3 percent
3. Working irregular hours/shifts: 1 percent
4. Unemployed: .3 percent
5. Retired: .3 percent
7. Current resident or fellow: 1.7 percent
