The rankings draw from three years of surveys of physician specialists, who were asked where they would refer their sickest patients. Hospitals nominated from a weighted average of at least 3% of the respondents are nationally ranked as “Best Hospitals.” Responses are weighted to ensure the final averages represent the national consensus among all specialists, not simply those who responded.
