Ophthalmic device company BVI Medical has earned FDA clearance for its new glaucoma surgical system, Leos, its brand name for the laser endoscopy ophthalmic system.
Leos is the only laser system that lowers intraocular pressure through addressing aqueous humor production in minimally invasive ab interno procedures, according to an April 17 press release.
BVI Medical, based in Waltham, Mass., recently raised $1 billion in capital funding, which it invested in Leos research, and earned product approvals in both Europe and Asia.
BVI plans to launch Leos commercially in the U.S. in the coming months.
