Billionaire Stephen Wynn Gives $25M for University of Iowa's Vision Research

Stephen Wynn, a billionaire casino mogul, has given the University of Iowa in Iowa City one of its top 10 largest donations ever, a $25 million gift toward finding cures for rare retinal diseases, according to a report in the Des Moines Register. Mr. Wynn, who has the inherited eye disease retinitis pigmentosa, will pay out his donation over five years. The university has proposed naming the facility the Stephen A. Wynn Institute for Vision Research.

Ed Stone, PhD, will lead the institute. Dr. Stone is a longtime friend of Mr. Wynn.
