Alabama Ophthalmology Associates recently suffered a data breach affecting the personal information of 131,576 individuals.
The organization said that on Jan. 30 it became aware of unusual activity within its network environment. An investigation determined that certain personal and protected health information was accessed and acquired without authorization by an unknown actor between Jan. 22 and Jan. 30.
The potentially affected information may have included personal identification information, health insurance information, treatment information and medical information, according to a notice posted on the practice’s website.
