AAO to Initiate First Comprehensive Eye Disease Patient Database

The American Academy of Ophthalmology has announced that it intends to initiate the first national comprehensive eye disease patient database, which will allow ophthalmologists statistical review and benchmarking of their own care.

The Intelligent Research in Sight Registry will gather data from electronic health records and produce national and practice-level benchmarking reports.

The IRIS Registry will also allow ophthalmologist automatic participation in the Physician Quality Reporting System.
