Florida Eye Institute to Offer New and Expanded Range of Lens Implants for Cataract Patients

Florida Eye Institute, an ambulatory surgery center in Vero Beach, Fla., will be the first ASC in its region to offer a new and expanded range of Softec HD Intra-ocular Lens implants for all cataract patients, according to a TC Palm report.

Val Zudans, MD, of Florida Eye Institute, was the first surgeon on the Treasure Coast to perform the cataract procedure using the Lenstec HD after it was approved by the FDA in 2010. He says the expanded range — which now includes 15-25 diopter power — means more patients will be able to take advantage of the technology.

According to the report, the lens is an addition to the MACS — Most Accurate Cataract Surgery — protocol instituted by the facility, which involves extensive preoperative testing and postoperative outcomes analysis to improve lens power calculations for patients.
