Cosmetic Surgeries Increase for Elderly Patients

While the number of cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States dropped 17 percent from 2005-2010, cosmetic surgeries for people over 65 increased nearly 30 percent, according to a KTAR report.

Statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery show that older patients are increasingly opting for cosmetic surgery. Physicians believe the change may be linked to changing perceptions of how seniors want to spend the last portion of their lives.

Other physicians say older Americans want the surgeries because they are staying in the workforce longer and must compete with more youthful coworkers.
