ASCAI victory in Illinois leads to changes for Medicare-certified ASCs

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed SB 3465 into law, amending the definition of an ASC in Illinois to include “any facility that meets the federal Medicare definition of an ambulatory surgery center,” according to an Ambulatory Surgery Center Association of Illinois report.

The legislation also allows the Illinois Department of Public Health to incorporate Medicare standards into ASC reviews automatically, even when the IDPH works through the rulemaking process.

ASCAI supported the legislation, impacting Medicare-certified ASCs in the state. The bill had overwhelming support in the Illinois Senate and House, and bipartisan leadership support from both Democrats and Republicans in the state.
