Are physicians on fad diets? 14 statistics on their eating habits

According to the Medscape Physician Lifestyle Report 2014, most overweight or obese physicians follow the "typical American diet" while underweight or normal physicians follow a variety of eating patterns. 

There were nearly 40 percent of male physicians, and around 25 percent of female physicians, who were overweight and nearly 20 percent who said they were obese. The diet for those physicians is as follows:

Typical American diet
Overweight or obese: 40 percent
Underweight or normal: 25 percent

American Health Association-type
Overweight or obese: 15 percent
Underweight or normal: 24 percent

Mediterranean-type
Overweight or obese: 14 percent
Underweight or normal: 22 percent

Weight loss —calorie restriction
Overweight or obese: 11 percent
Underweight or normal: 6 percent

Paleo
Overweight or obese: 5 percent
Underweight or normal: 7 percent

Lacto-ovo vegetarian
Overweight or obese: 4 percent
Underweight or normal: 6 percent

Vegan
Overweight or obese: 1 percent
Underweight or normal: 2 percent
