Here are seven news updates for ambulatory surgery center leaders to know for Nov. 25, 2013.

US Senate approves bill that would increase compounding pharmacy oversight.
The U.S. Senate has approved a bill that would increase compounding pharmacy regulations. The bill comes in the wake of last year's outbreak of fungal meningitis traced to a compounding pharmacy in Massachusetts.

Graymark Healthcare Q3 revenue up 103%.
Graymark Healthcare has announced its third quarter financial results. The company's revenue is up 103 percent to $25 million, compared to $12.3 million over the same period last year. Graymark recently acquired Foundation Surgical Hospital Affiliates and Foundation Surgery Affiliates.

Rexford Surgical Institute expands surgery center.
Rexford Surgical Institute has expanded its multispecialty Beverly Hills (Calif.) Surgery Center. After the expansion, the center now has two operating rooms and four pre- and postoperative units.

Pennsylvania House passes anesthesia administration supervision bill.
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has passed a bill that will require a physician to supervise other personnel administrating anesthesia. The state's department of health has required physician supervision of anesthesia administrator for 30 years, but the new bill will make the regulation part of the law under the Medical Practice Act.

100% of AmSurg centers receive quality reporting payments in 2014.
AmSurg has announced that all of its centers have been found to be compliant with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services quality reporting requirements. All AmSurg centers will receive full payment in 2014.

Healthcare spending growth rate hits record low.
Since the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2010, healthcare spending has grown at an estimated average rate of 1.3 percent, the lowest rate for any three-year period of record. Healthcare price inflation has also reached its lowest rate in 50 years.

Joint Commission releases new toolkit.
The Joint Commission has released a new toolkit designed to prevent central line-association bloodstream infections. The toolkit is titled "Preventing Central-Line Associated Bloodstream Infections – Useful Tools, An International Perspective."
