UT Health opens Texas surgery center

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley has opened a surgery and cancer center in McAllen, Texas. 

The UT Health RGV Cancer and Surgery Center includes orthopedics and sports medicine treatment, outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging and clinical research and training, according to an Oct. 8 news release from the university. 

In addition, students will gain hands-on learning experience to help address the physician shortage in Texas.

The facility is the only academic cancer center in the Rio Grande Valley, the release said.
