Three details:

1. The Traverse City-based ASC will be devoted to orthopedic procedures, including joint replacements, physicians involved told UpNorthLive.

2. The center is being built in an area with an aging population of baby boomers who could benefit from those procedures, according to Vincent Prusick, MD, of Traverse City-based Great Lakes Orthopaedic Center.

“Downstate and national trends are to do more and more of that in the least invasive way possible, and much of that volume is shifting towards the outpatient setting,” he said.

3. A groundbreaking ceremony took place May 29. Towson, Md.-based SurgCenter Development aims to open the ASC before the winter holidays.
