New ASC Development

Five joint-venture surgery centers have been recently opened or announced, including one in a new Michigan outpatient campus.

Gainesville, Fla.-based UF Health is building a $3.5 million ASC specializing in spine and pain management, Jacksonville Business Journal reported April 29.

Jefferson City, Mo.-based Capital Regional Medical Center's 24,000-square-foot ASC is expected to open this September, Jefferson City News Tribune reported April 29.

Texas is a hot spot for ASC development. Here are five ASC moves in the state from the last month:

Texoma Medical Center has opened an ASC in Denison, Texas, to offload burden from its main hospital, local ABC affiliate KTEN reported April 26. 

Southfield, Mich.-based Beaumont Health is opening an outpatient campus with an ASC.

Amherst, N.Y.-based Atlas Surgery Center is opening May 2 as the area's first neurosurgery ASC, Buffalo Business Journal reported April 25.

Lehigh Valley Health Network is building an $80 million hospital in Mahoning Township, Pa., that will expand its ambulatory surgery services, the Times News reported April 22. 

Franciscan Health and independent physician group Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics recently opened a facility housing an ASC in Carmel, Ind., Current Publishing reported April 24. 

Hawaii anesthesiologist Rudolph Puana, MD, was convicted on 38 counts of opioid distribution, the Justice Department said April 20.
