Here are five details:

1. When it opens Jan. 7, 2019, the surgical center will replace Orthopedic Associates’ 15-year-old location in Rocky Hill.

2. At 45,000-square-feet, the new facility will be 40 percent larger than the existing location.

3. The new center will handle up to 15,000 cases annually, including shoulder, knee and hip replacements, spine surgery, shoulder and knee arthroscopy and hand, wrist, elbow, foot and ankle surgery.

4. It will feature 25 patient rooms, a physical therapy center, one procedure room and seven operating rooms with robotics technology and advanced sterilization systems.

5. Orthopedic Associates has three other surgical centers in Hartford, Conn., Glastonbury, Conn., and Southington, Conn., as well as a dozen patient offices.

“The center has everything and more that a hospital offers, without the overnight stay and with improved convenience and lower costs,” said Pietro A. Memmo, MD, the center’s assistant director, co-owner and project manager. “Research, patient satisfaction and our experience shows that outpatient surgeries are more cost effective for patients, with much lower infection rates and superior outcomes.”
