New Orleans-based Ochsner Health has doubled the number of operating rooms at Ochsner Medical Complex – The Grove in Baton Rouge, La., through a multimillion-dollar surgical expansion.
According to an Oct. 2 news release, the project is part of Ochsner Baton Rouge’s $50 million, multiphase expansion at The Grove and Ochsner Medical Center – Baton Rouge. It also added nearly 20,000 square feet of clinic space.
Ochsner hired 20 surgeons to support the growth. Their specialties include breast, colorectal, orthopedic, podiatry and gynecologic oncology surgery. The system also added three radiologists. Ochsner physicians and community-based physicians will both use the expanded surgical space.
In August, surgeons from The NeuroMedical Center performed the first spine surgery at The Grove. The campus had not offered spine surgery before.
“Our investment in The Grove is about creating a place where patients and families can access more of the care they need in one convenient location,” said Chuck Daigle, CEO of Ochsner Baton Rouge.
Dr. Quentin Alleva, regional medical director of Ochsner Baton Rouge, said the new operating rooms let surgeons and community partners provide more specialized care and give patients greater access to procedures.
The Grove now offers about 50 specialty services, including orthopedics, neurosurgery, oncology, gastroenterology, cardiology and pediatric care. The campus also has overnight hospital beds, endoscopy rooms, pain management procedure rooms and an infusion center. It serves patients in Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Iberville, Livingston and Tangipahoa parishes.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
