New York hospital abandons ASC proposal after 2 years — 3 insights

Schenectady, N.Y.-based Ellis Medicine will no longer build an ASC in Clifton Park, N.Y., citing timing issues, The Daily Gazette reports.

What you should know:

1. The health system received contingent approval for its proposed 62,000-square-foot surgery center in December 2017. Clifton Park approved the proposal in March 2019, and construction was supposed to begin May 1, 2019.

2. In a statement to The Daily Gazette, the health system said it views Clifton Park and Saratoga County as growth markets, but said it would "shift our focus and begin exploring an expansion of other healthcare services on our Clifton Park campus."

3. For now, it appears Ellis is eliminating the possibility of building any sort of surgery center. In its statement, Ellis said: "It was a determination that an ambulatory surgery center in Clifton Park is not the best use of Ellis' resources at this time."
