Missouri county approves tax incentive for hospital building surgery center — 3 insights

County officials approved a tax district for Houston, Mo.-based Texas County Memorial Hospital, the Houston Herald reports.

What you should know:

1. In an 8-1 vote, property owners approved a quarter-cent sales tax in the Community Improvement District to support Texas County Memorial Hospital's surgery center proposal.

2. The district will collect about $675,000, which the hospital will use to build the surgery center. The tax district will expire after 10 years or when all the money is collected, whichever happens first.

3. The matter was fiercely debated and highly contested. Texas County Memorial Hospital CEO Wes Murray thanked property owners for their support.
