Lawrence Memorial Hospital faces challenge from city council on ASC approval: 4 details

The Medford City Council requested that the public comment period be extended for the proposed ASC at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Wicked Local reported.

Here are the key details to know:

1. After the hospital made plans to build a $16 million ASC on its campus, residents expressed frustrations about the center's potential impact on parking, traffic and noise in the area.

2. In response, MelroseWakefield, the hospital's parent company, developed a community advisory group and a community engagement plan detailing how the company will meet with the Medford Chamber of Commerce to discuss the proposal.

3. "What we want to do is really listen to residents and see what services they would like," MelroseWakefield Healthcare CEO Sue Sandberg told Wicked Local. "We will go and look and consider the services the residents are requesting, because these services would be brought ... for the residents."

4. The proposed ASC would be a multispecialty facility offering orthopedic, plastic, ear nose and throat surgery, as well as endoscopies.
