Four health systems are investing hundreds of millions of dollars in new hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and outpatient campuses across Upstate South Carolina, where an estimated 60 to 100 new residents arrive each day, the Upstate Business Journal reported Nov. 4.

Greenville-based Prisma Health is building the $180 million Fountain Inn Medical Park on a 50-acre, including a 130,000-square-foot medical office building with more than 200 exam rooms and a 27,000-square-foot outpatient surgery center with eight operating rooms. Four of the ORs are dedicated to orthopedic and other specialty surgeries.

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health’s Patewood campus in Greenville will add an ASC, expected to open in January. A 20-bed, outpatient-focused hospital on the same campus is slated for late 2027. Novant also opened an orthopedics and sports medicine center there and paid $44.8 million for a 58-acre former TD Bank campus in Greenville.

Prisma is also spending $350 million to expand Greer Memorial Hospital. That project includes a $100 million medical office building due in mid-2027.

Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System plans a $325 million, 241,000-square-foot heart and vascular hospital in Spartanburg. It is expected to begin serving patients in 2030.

AnMed Health is developing a $105 million, 150,000-square-foot campus in Central, S.C., set to open in spring 2027. It also converted an Anderson shopping center into Windsor Place, a medical complex offering orthopedics, ENT and outpatient imaging.

Bon Secours will open a $25 million freestanding emergency department in Taylors and a 40,000-square-foot medical center in Powdersville in early 2027.

These projects cover outpatient surgery, emergency, behavioral health and specialty care in the Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson markets.
