Atrium Health gets state approval for $78M ASC

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C., was granted conditional approval from the state to build an ASC, the Triad Business Journal reported Nov. 14.

Atrium earned the green light last month from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services' certificate-of-need division and got approved to spend an additional $34.7 million on the ASC. The project's total investment is $78.4 million.

Atrium initially received a certificate of need for the ASC in 2013, and the project was slated to cost $43.7 million. The biggest price jumps for the project are for construction and medical equipment.

The ASC is expected to be 72,300 square feet and will have eight operating rooms, two procedure rooms, a robotic surgery training center and a simulation operating room, according to the report.

A spokesperson from Atrium Health told Becker's the system does not have additional comment at this time.
