Alabama hospital hopes to add 2 more procedure rooms in planned ASC — 5 insights

Opelika-based East Alabama Medical Center is seeking approval to expand the square footage and double the number of procedure rooms in its planned ASC.

What you should know:

1. EAMC wants to modify a certificate of need it received to develop an ASC in Auburn, Ala. It proposed expanding the ASC's square footage from 20,000 square feet to 24,145 square feet.

2. EAMC also wants to build four procedure rooms instead of just two that were previously approved. The modification would allow more surgeons to use the ASC, EAMC said in its request.

3. Construction is expected to cost $13,960,580, and the project is expected to cost $22,369,974 overall. EAMC will finance the project through new revenues and cash on hand.

4. The ASC will be the first one in Auburn and the first freestanding one in Lee County.

5. The proposed modifications wouldn't affect the number of beds, bed classification or services offered at the ASC.
