Specialty Surgery Center (Nashville, Tenn.). The ASC recently installed the NextGen Ambulatory EHR. The installation went smoothly, according to Jeffrey Carter, MD, DMD, president and CEO of the center. The facility opened in 1992, and it is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. The ASC was the first in the United States to offer oral and maxillofacial surgery. Today, it also offers ophthalmology, pediatric dentistry and plastic surgery.

Midlands Orthopaedics Surgery Center (Columbia, S.C.). The surgery center, along with Midlands Orthopaedics clinic, uses athenahealth's EHR, practice management and patient communication services.

"All systems don't make this easy to figure out. I can't really imagine pulling that data together from another system as easily as I was able to do it with athenahealth," says AnnMargaret McCraw, CEO of the surgery center.

The freestanding ASC is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. The center's physicians offer a wide-array of procedures, including total knee and hip replacements, partial knee replacements, hip resurfacing, total shoulder replacements and a number of spine procedures.
