6 ASC technologies to know

Carrie Pallardy -

Healthcare is rife with technology options from EHRs to robotics. Providers are bombarded with options for both the clinical and business operations of healthcare. Here are six technologies used in the ASC setting recommended by Becker's ASC Review readers.

If you would like to recommend a technology for this list, please contact Carrie Pallardy at cpallardy@beckershealthcare.com.

HealthLoop. HealthLoop is a cloud-based platform designed to automate care follow-up by connecting patients and care providers. The system sends patients messages on recovery care steps and allows patients to respond, helping care providers look for signs of postoperative complications. HealthLoop is used by large health systems, like Cedars-Sinai Health System in Los Angeles, and individual physician practices, such as Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine in San Francisco.

Hybrent. Hybrent's supply chain software solution has online and mobile applications. The software can be used in surgery centers, physician offices, hospitals and health systems. The software, with online and mobile applications, is designed to offer users price comparisons, real-time episode of care data and inventory management. The software searches through distributor and manufacturer data to find supply pricing and availability. Hybrent software is also able to deliver reports on the value of each case by physician preference card.

One Medical Passport. The One Medical Passport system is a preadmissions solution. The technology aims to connect patients, providers and referring physicians throughout the pre-operative, care, discharge and post-operative processes. The system is used by ASCs, physician practices, hospitals and health systems. One Medical Passport, a web-based technology, requires no hardware or software installation.

Navio Surgical System. The Navio Surgical System, from Blue Belt Technologies, is a robotic system used to perform knee surgery. Nearly half (40 percent) of Navio systems are located in surgery centers. The system includes handheld instruments with patient-specific planning processes. The Navio system has software for unicondylar and patellofemoral knee replacement. The system does not require preoperative CT scans, reducing patient exposure to radiation. Blue Belt has formed a number of partnerships, both device companies and surgery center companies. Device company partners include DePuy Synthes, Smith & Nephew, DJO, StelKast and more. Blue Belt also has its own proprietary implant: STRIDE. Navio's ASC company partners include Constitution Surgery Centers, Meridian Surgical Partners, Surgical Care Affiliates and more.

Silversheet. Silversheet's software is designed to simplify the process of physician credentialing. The software allows users to verify physician credentials and maintain credentialing requirements. The system collects, organizes and tracks physician credentials in the cloud, eliminating the need for paper. The software sends automated alerts to keep facilities on schedule with credentialing. Silversheet is also designed with physician credentialing accreditation requirements in mind.

Vision OnDemand. Vision OnDemand is a cloud-based clinical and business management solution from SourceMedical. The system is specifically focused on ASCs and specialty hospitals. Vision OnDemand includes the Vision EHR, as well as several other features. Features include scheduling, remote scheduling, patient registration, preference cards, case management, case costing, inventory management, accounts receivable, electronic remittance, electronic document management, facility reporting, workflow management, claims support, collections management, patient tracking, quality assurance, credentialing and more.
