St. John’s University to honor Dr. John Hajjar with Spirit of Service award

New York City-based St. John’s University is awarding six Spirit of Service awards at its 20th Annual President’s Dinner.

John Hajjar, MD, is among the honorees.

Dr. Hajjar is the founder, chairman and CEO of Glen Rock, N.J.-based Sovereign Health System.

He earned a medical degree from St. John’s College, now University, in 1997. He completed a residency at New York City-based New York University before beginning a career in research.

Dr. Hajjar entered private practice in 1987. Then in 1992, he established one of New Jersey’s first ASCs. That center served as a prototype for several others.

After opening several surgery centers, Dr. Hajjar founded Surgem, which is an ASC management and development company.
