Portland-based Oath Surgical has completed the first robotic prostatectomy performed at an outpatient surgery center in the U.S. Pacific Northwest, according to a July 21 news release.
The procedure was performed at Oath’s Beaverton, Ore. surgery center by David Jiang, MD, a urologic surgeon at The Oregon Clinic. Robotic prostatectomies have historically been performed in hospital settings due to their complexity. Performing the procedure in an outpatient setting can save as much as $20,000 per case, according to Oath.
Oath Surgical operates three outpatient surgical centers in the Portland area, partners with more than 200 surgeons and 30 affiliated ASCs and is backed by $35 million in total funding.
