Jon Van Valkenburg has been appointed as the first representative of freestanding ASCs on the New York State Public Health and Health Planning Council, according to a June 8 news release from the New York State Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers.
The appointment fills a newly established ASC seat on the PHHPC, one of the state’s most influential healthcare policy bodies, giving the state’s freestanding ASC community dedicated representation on matters affecting healthcare delivery and facility planning for the first time.
NYSAASC said the move reflects the growing role of ASCs in New York’s healthcare system as care continues to shift toward outpatient settings.
